How to Go to Johor Bahru from Singapore

This is a question that we get asked a lot, and for good reason. Johor Bahru (JB) is a popular destination for Singaporeans looking for a quick getaway or day trip. Located just across the border from Singapore, it’s easy to get to and there is plenty to see and do in this vibrant city.

In this quick guide, we will indicate the different ways you can go to Johor Bahru from Singapore.

By Public Bus

The most common way to get to JB from Singapore is by taking a bus. This is also the cheapest option. The journey takes around one to two hours, depending on the traffic conditions.

Woodlands Interchange: Direct Bus: 950

Queen Street Terminal: Bus 170, CW2, SJE

Kranji MRT station: Bus 170X and CW1

By Coach

If you’re in Changi Airport, there is a coach service to JB located at Terminal 1, which typically costs around S$11 for an Adult and S$5.50 for a Child. You will have to book your tickets here first, look for Transtar Bus TS1. You can also exchange Malaysian ringgits online and pick them up at Changi Recommends’ Counters in Changi Airport before boarding the coach to JB.

If you’re in Resort World Sentosa, look for Transtar Bus TS8 from Basement Coach Bay. Before you go, do book your tickets in advance here.

By Car

You can also drive to Johor Bahru if you have your own car or rent one. Depending on traffic circumstances, the travel takes 45 minutes to an hour. If you go during festivals and public holidays, it is likely to take more than 2 hours. When crossing the border into Malaysia, make sure you have your passport with you. You will also need to pay a toll when entering JB.

By Taxi

If you’re taking taxi in Singapore, do note that the driver can only drop you off at Woodlands Checkpoint, not Johor Bahru CIQ Complex.

By KTM Train

Another option is to take the train called Shuttle Tebrau, and it’s operated by Malaysia’s national train operator, KTM. The train journey from Singapore to Johor Bahru takes around five to eight minutes with tickets costing around RM16. However, it is a much more comfortable ride and you will avoid any traffic jams that might occur at the border crossing. You can catch the train from Woodlands Train Checkpoint in Singapore. It is highly recommended to book the tickets online in advance here.
