What a carry-on! The fresh face in the world of luggage, July, is finally available in Singapore and it’s out to impress the jet-setters.
Modern and elegant aesthetic combined with thoughtful functionality, this is a product designed by travellers, for travellers.
At first, I was sceptical, but upon closer inspection, I was proven wrong.
Designed and made in Australia, JULY has both façade and substance, sporting aerospace-grade German polycarbonate, a convenient charging point with ejectable battery for your electronic devices, a telescopic handle which is fully customisable instead of the typical two-level height, and its trademark SilentMove 360° spinner wheels that glide effortlessly and quietly across all surfaces.
The brand even takes into consideration the challenges faced by travellers when packing their belongings. They have incorporated an internal July Y-Strap Compression system which creates more room. Depending on how much you’re packing, the heavy-duty strap is fully adjustable, and it is especially helpful when you find yourself just throwing everything in at the last minute and still be able to zip closed your luggage. There is also a built-in waterproof and smell-resistant laundry bag which goes to show that the makers of the suitcase have paid careful attention to a traveller’s needs. Every trip involves unpacking and repacking your suitcase and using multiple sets of clothes which can become a challenge to keep your clothes smelling fresh after a few days. But with July’s suitcase, you don’t have to worry about it.

Our Carry-On is perfect on the inside too. Packing should be easy and enjoyable. We've made it easy to pack more into your trip. Our July Y-Strap Compression System provides a heavy-duty strap that pulls down to create more space in your case. There's space in there for a week's worth of outfits. We've included a hidden water and smell-resistant laundry bag provides a pragmatic solution to items that need to be hidden. Problem-free packing courtesy of @july
The founders are avid travellers themselves, Athan Didaskalou and Richard Li, spoke with hundreds of frequent travellers to find out about their needs and luggage desires. With those feedback in mind, they started developing the perfect carry-on luggage, and thus, the inception of July.
And why is it named after July? The idea is simply because it’s the time of the year where everyone is travelling and enjoying a mid-summer holiday, and it is also the busiest air month for air travel.
Now, a perfect carry-on suitcase does exist, thanks to July. The Carry-On was awarded Gold in 2019 Melbourne and New York Design Awards. July is well-poised to meet the increasing demand for high quality, beautifully designed suitcase that lasts a lifetime, and at a reasonable price, since there is no physical brick-and-mortar store, they are running everything online.
Since July’s inception in 2018, they have introduced three types of suitcases namely, the Carry-On (40 Litres), Checked (80 Litres), and Checked Plus (110 Litres) with price starting from SGD$295.
Each July case comes with a 100-day returns policy and a lifetime warranty. If you needed any more convincing to shop at July, the site also offers free shipping* and returns for all Singaporean customers. Shipping will usually take around one to two business days from the date of order.
Well, is the price tag worth it? I’d say yes, if you’re looking to spend less, you could be compromising on quality. I’m sure for many of us, suitcases are an investment because nobody wants to buy a new one every year or so. And, there is nothing worse than getting your suitcase back from the baggage claim and something is broken.

I have to give July full marks for their design innovation. You can even personalise your suitcase with your initials. July offers monogramming services for users to add their initials, adding a personal touch to your cases and making luggage mixups on the baggage carousel a thing of the past. The inked initials will last as long as your case does, so say goodbye to your gaudy luggage tag.
