Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): What Travellers Should Know About the New Travel Requirement

Starting from January 1, 2024, Malaysia will require most foreign travellers to fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arriving. The MDAC is an online pre-arrival form that should be completed up to three days before arrival.

What is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) for?

This requirement is part of the country’s Visa Liberalisation Plan, aimed at attracting more foreign tourists and increasing national income.

Who is required to fill up the digital arrival card?

Singaporeans travelling to Malaysia are exempt from filling in the country’s digital arrival card.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) will not be mandatory for frequent visitors to Malaysia.

The following categories of travellers, in addition to Singaporeans, are not required to complete the MDAC:

1. Malaysia long-term pass holders.
2. Those with Brunei common identification certificates and Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility.
3. Holders of Thai border passes.
4. Indonesian Cross-Border pass holders.

All travellers who do not fall within the above exemptions must complete and submit their digital forms three days before arriving in Malaysia.

What is the process for MDAC?

Foreign travellers who are not exempted must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) on the website of the Immigration Department. This should be done within three days before their planned arrival in Malaysia.

For each visit to the country, all un-exempted travellers need to fill up the digital arrival card online, three days before arriving in Malaysia. There is no fee for submitting the form.

When filling out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, travellers must provide information such as their date of arrival and departure, mode of travel, and last port of embarkation.

Foreign travellers arriving in Malaysia should present a valid passport and a completed digital arrival card for validation at the immigration counter.
