A Christmas Bar Hidden in the Back Alleys of Tanjong Pagar

-

A Christmas gathering with friends is not complete without a drink or two. Besides champagne, how about a taste of that après-ski life in Singapore – without the flight time?

Enter Junior, a hidden gem of a bar that rotates and presents two concepts every year. It is also the most low-key of Singapore’s cocktail spots. Expect to mingle with hipsters and local barflies.

This time of the year, Junior transforms into a cosy Petite Chalet, drawing inspirations from the alpine ski lodge for its décor and menu. You’re far more likely to hear the elegant tapping of stilettos than the awkward clunk of ski boots in this. While the bar isn’t set high amidst the Alps, the cosy atmosphere and festive menu evoke an authentic ski-lodge vibe. Think timber floors and tables, with holly boughs slung across the beams, and festoon lighting hanging from the ceiling.

As imaginative a bar you’ll see, there are Christmas-themed cocktails and bar bites to match. Cheers to a sweet start with Red Ryder, a freshing and tart concoction featuring cranberry juice with Widges gin, gentian alpine liqueur and a lovely aroma from lemon and rosemary.

If you’re after something a little bit cosier, try A Carajillo for Christmas, a hot cocktail made with Diplomatico Mantuano rum, cold brew coffee, PX Sherry, Amaro Montenegro, and gingerbread cream. It’s a perfect antidote to a rainy night in Singapore.

At Petite Chalet, even the grouchiest Grinch will be getting into the holiday spirit. There’s no way of leaving without at least a light buzz from all that festive tipples!
