The food at Pura Brasa embodies the meaning of the brand – “just hot coals”, where the Josper Grill takes centre stage. Start the evening strong with Josper Grilled Razor Clams ($28++ for two pcs) paired with fragrant garlic and parsley before indulging in the Josper Grilled Mediterranean Seabass ($43++ for half; $80++ for whole seabass). Matsukiya

This Valentine’s Day, treat your significant other to a sumptuous Japanese-style meal at Matsukiya. The chefs have specially curated a 6-course sharing menu that promises to make your evening extra special.

Begin with pre-dinner nibbles Black Truffle Edamame — the healthy greens are enlivened with truffle oil and topped with exquisite truffle slices for a fragrant lift. For the Salmon Tataki, the salmon is specially air flown from Norway. It is coated with crushed black pepper for a fiery kick, then flame-seared to achieve a smoky hint.

It is time to tuck into the restaurant’s speciality: Kushiyaki. It is a showcase of wagyu, tebasaki, bacon akanatsu, unagi and shhiitake. Brushed with a special in-house marinade, the ingredients are grilled over binchō-tan.

The indulgence continues with the Kaisen Donabe, a splendid medley of grilled tarabagani, gindara and salmon. Highly prized for its soft texture and unique sweetness, the tarabagani (red king crab) is the largest species in the crab family. It pairs impeccably with the gindara (black cod), which is glazed with special in-house marinade and grilled. All the ingredients are perched on the restaurant’s signature burdock rice. The overall dish is then topped with huge chunks of crab meat and glistening ikura.

Bound to earn oohs and aahs is the Bone-In Iberico Pork Chop. The pork is marinated with shiro miso sauce, thus delivering an umami punch. It is then grilled to perfection — relish its gorgeous crust and juiciness! The meat indulgence is tempered by a generous serving of seasonal greens. A hearty bowl of French Chicken Broth with Tsukune also accompanies the dishes.

Cap off the evening with the Mizu Shingen Mochi. This viral raindrop cake makes for an Instagram-worthy post. Slightly sweet and wobbly, it comes drizzled with brown sugar and beans powder.

Matsukiya’s 6-course Valentine’s Day sharing menu for 2 is available from 13 February to 14 February 2022 during dinner service only. It is priced at S$200++ per couple, and comes with one glass of red wine or premium draft beer per person.

For sake and wine pairing, Nada Jikomi’s hot and cold sake, Brown Brothers’ chardonnay and shiraz as well as Moscato D’ Asti2021 are specially picked to complement the flavours of the dishes.
