The Artscience Museum will be home to Frida Kahlo’s “The Life Of An Icon” biography exhibition. Frida Kahlo is a Mexican painter born in Coyoacán, Mexico City, known for her colourful portraits and self portraits that takes inspiration from nature and artefacts in Mexico. Kahlo has attained the title of being one of the most influential female artists of the 20th century gaining more popularity after her death. Frida Kahlo’s exhibition incorporates 360 degree projections, 9 distinct immersive spaces, interactive installations, photographs and films representing a vivid depiction of Frida Kahlo’s life and legacy she has left behind.
Frida Kahlo’s journey to fame began when she encountered a tragic accident at the age of 18. The bus that she had been in along with other passengers, collided with a tram, resulting in many fatalities. Luckily for Frida, she survived after being impaled on the right side of her body. She suffered many fractures and broken bones all over her body and spent a long time in hospital recovering. Her bed-ridden recovery was what ignited her passion for the painting artistry. She often channeled her pain, along with other emotions into her paintings while she was hospitalised, which then developed into a life long habit and career for her.
