This is the Coolest Airport Hotel in Auckland

As any travel veteran can attest to, hotels are, at the end of the day, a means to rest your weary mind, body, and soul after a day of exploring. Hotel rooms are short-term, temporary, and ad interim — suitable for travellers on layovers who need a roof over their heads for the night, and especially for people on business trips.

As such, most well-travelled fliers tend to stick to their regular, boring hotel rooms. Hotel rooms that do not inspire a whole lotta warmth and energy, which entails a very bleak affair. Not exactly the kind of atmosphere you’d want to be immersed in at the end of a long business day, we’d say.

Singapore-based Naumi Hotels looks to break this rather gloomy mould by introducing Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport — located within earshot of New Zealand’s Auckland International Airport.

Naumi says…. 50 shades of naughty

Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport is housed in the old facility of the Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport. And upon completion of its final renovations in 2018, the hotel welcomed the first wave of guests later that year with much fanfare.

A hallmark of the Naumi Hotel line is its insistence on taking the design route with their suites. Meaning, any guests staying in a Naumi Hotel will be able to fully enjoy bespoke design and aesthetics (not to mention comfort) not found anywhere else.

Speaking of design elements, the Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport draws inspiration from New Zealand’s native Tui Bird and the hotel boasts 193 spacious rooms including five room types comprising an eclectic mix of furnishing and differing designs.

These suites include the Habitat suite, the Oasis suite, and the Blush suite. Of course, the newcomers Dottie and Ziggy are excellent choices, but we’ll get to that soon enough.

All Naumi Hotel rooms also come with the essentials you’ll need for the perfect escape, as well as for that much sought after “me time”. Think GHD straighteners, Dyson hairdryers, yoga mats, soft silk robes, and an awesome in-room dining menu.

And true to Naumi’s signature hospitality, the hotel even goes out of its way to ensure guests experience the most pleasant stay. Beginning with a complimentary airport shuffle, guests are presented with a dose of aloe vera on their arrival. They’ll then be personally escorted to their rooms, where they may begin to fully enjoy the facilities to their heart’s content.

Other hotel facilities also include the standard hotel fare like an outdoor pool, a putting green, TechnoGym exercise studio, a yoga deck, relaxing lounge areas, a restaurant, and tranquil gardens.

Inspired By Missoni And Yayoi Kusama

As a continuation of the hotel’s reputation for quirky design, Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport’s two “new-ish” designer-inspired suites are sure to be a delight to guests.

The Ziggy and Dottie suites were inspired by Italian fashion house Missoni and artist Yayoi Kusama respectively. Both rooms were also created in collaboration with Auckland-based duo, Material Creative — seamlessly combining Naumi’s passion for art and fashion to create the perfect stylish one-bedroom suite the hotel is famous for.

Gettin’ Ziggy Wit It

Featuring a bright and enchanting allure, the Ziggy suite was inspired by Missoni’s innovative use of patterns (stripes) and colour to create their signature print.

With splashes of pink, purple, orange, and blue, along with a neon-lit bar and a foosball table, the Ziggy suite is the embodiment of fun. Ziggy comes fully furnished with a large living room, Naumi’s signature 5-layer bedding king-sized bed adorned with 400 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, and a private balcony.

But other than that, take a gander at the curated bespoke artwork from local artists which add a little more Kiwi charm to the playful room. Of note, vivid art pieces include works by Evie Kemp which can be found in the lounge area. And above the bed, Carmel Vanderhoven’s masterpiece hangs proudly. Lastly, the bedroom wallpaper was also hand-painted by the NY Art Dept. of New Zealand.

Polka Dottie All The Way

Inspired by Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama, Dottie is a suite that radiates whimsical energy. Once you’ve stepped foot into this suite, you’ll quickly notice that the Dottie suite is filled with a magical blend of colours, shapes, and textures.

Polka dots, in particular, filled the entire suite from the bedroom walls to the bathroom. Indeed, Naumi Hotel’s Dottie suite is a celebration of Yayoi Kusama, the polka dot princess and creator of avant-garde art installations and sculptures.

In addition, the suite also has pieces by the artist such as original handkerchiefs designed by Yayoi-san herself, as well as tea towels framed on the wall. Aside from the artist’s collection of artwork, the Dottie suite has other pieces made by Capitol Signs, Kusama figurines from Auckland Art Gallery, and Kusama plates from Third Drawer Down.
