Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations Return with Festive Fair, Street Light-up, Countdown Party and More

After two years of virtual celebrations, the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebration 2023 is finally returning to the streets! The long-awaited Festive Fair will be back, along with many other exciting festivities from 1 January to 19 February 2023. Organised by the Chinatown Festival Committee and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, this year’s event is sure to be an unforgettable experience for travellers and locals alike.

Themed ‘Leaping into the Prosperous Year of the Rabbit (新春福兔迎 新岁, 富贵盈门庆丰年)’, the familiar sights and sounds of Chinatown will once again come alive with physical festivities for everyone.

From the all-time favourite Festive Fair and Street Light-Up to the lion dance performances, there’s something for everyone. Let’s take a look at what makes this year’s celebration so special!

The Festive Fair Returns

The iconic Festive Fair returns with all its colorful booths, traditional snacks, and bright decorations. With 280 stalls selling festive goods spanning Smith Street, Pagoda Street, Trengganu Street and Temple Street, and there will be weekly Stage Shows held over two weekends at Kreta Ayer Square.

As part of the Chinatown Festival Committee’s contributions to make Singapore a more sustainable urban destination, members of the public will be given the opportunity to repurpose street lanterns from the light-up as part of the ‘Adopt a Lantern’ initiative.

Chinatown Chinese New Year Countdown Party on 21 January 2023

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, January 21, 2023, there will be a Countdown Party at Kreta Ayer Square. The party will be shown live on Channel 8 at 10:30 p.m., and there will be a great lineup of performances by Mediacorp artists.

Expect an evening filled with festive music, firework displays and a spectacular countdown performance! It’s been two whole years since we were able to celebrate this special occasion together in person – mark your calendars now so you don’t miss out on all these amazing events!
