Orchids of Angkor Wat: Step In And Admire Cambodia’s Beautiful Orchids

Step into the world of the Khmer Empire and explore the beauty of Angkor Wat in the latest floral display being held at Gardens By The Bay Singapore. The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Singapore has collaborated with Gardens By The Bay for the very first time to bring the flora of Angkor Wat to the Cloudforest and Orchid Haven. This collaboration highlights the Cambodian Orchid and it’s significant symbolism to the Khmer Empire, drawing attention to the symbolic representation of nobility, also signifying their religious beliefs. These orchids have been long intertwined in Cambodian history and culture with carvings found in caves also depicting the importance of these flowers to the Khmer Empire. This floral display will feature a range of Cambodian orchids and their hybrid varieties against the iconic Angkor Wat backdrop.

Cambodia is home to more than 500 different species of orchids, with some being more unusual than the rest. One such species that you can keep a look out for is the slipper orchid, a slipper like flower that strategically catches it’s pray through the art of ‘pollination by deceit’. Also keep your eyes peeled for the Vandachostylis and Dendrobium Adastra. The former with a deep purple hue, whilst the latter can be recognized by a pinkish hue.

Take in the beauty of the gateway to Angkor Thom, where Angkor Wat resides in, and view the five stone replicas. These stone replicas provide visitors an insight into the daily lives of the ancient Khmer Empire.

From now until September 8th 2024, come and enjoy the charms of Cambodia without ever having to leave the country, only at Gardens By The Bay.
