Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to get back into the swing of things. For many people, this can be a difficult transition. The holidays are a time for celebration and relaxation, and returning to work or school can be tough. Whatever the reason for your feelings, we’ve got some tips that can help you get right back on track.
5 Tips to Get Back into the Swing of Things
1. Take some time for yourself
First and foremost, try to be patient with yourself. It’s normal to feel a little out of sorts after the holidays. Give yourself some time to readjust. It could be spending 15 minutes a day meditating or visiting a spa.
2. Make a list of 3 to 5 things you wish to accomplish within a week
Before you become overwhelmed by the amount of tasks on your plates, ask yourself a few questions and prioritize. Getting organized can ease your transition back into “normal” life, which may include making some time every day to plan out what you need to do, setting simple goals for yourself. It can be as simple as “Go to bed early by 10pm”.
3. Take breaks throughout the day
When you’re feeling stressed, it can be helpful to take short breaks throughout the day. Get up and move around, drink some water, and take a few deep breaths. These brief breaks will help refresh your mind and make it easier to continue working later on.
4. Triage your emails
Don’t rush to achieve ‘inbox zero.’ Instead, make three email labels/folders with the following names: Need a response today, need a response this week, probably deleteable.
Then, going by the subject line alone, filter all these emails into these three folders. After you do that, only focus on that first folder today (and save that last folder for Friday when you’re done with work for the week).
5. Make plans for something you’re excited about
Remember how it felt when you got that awesome new school bag or pencil case and couldn’t wait to show off your treasures? Well, there are ways for us adults too. Whether it be catching a play after work or checking out new insta-worthy lunch spots, you have something to look forward to!
Once you’ve gotten back on track, you’ll feel fantastic. Movement begets movement, and happiness is no exception.
