Tokyo has a thriving cafe scene and is well-known for having some of the best 3D and 2D latte artists in the world. What’s more, there’s now a coffee shop that serves cute 3D latte art for take-out only.

On our recent visit to Asakusa, Tokyo, we were delighted to chance upon this discreet coffee stand tucked on a side street with one standing menu that features 3D latte art. It’s easy to miss if you’re too caught up in the hustle and bustle of Asakusa! We were sold the moment we saw the pictures of 3D latte art on the menu, so we went straight into the coffee stand. It’s evident that the barista knows what they got to offer – Instagrammable latte art and they even curated a small pocket of space within the shop for customers to take photos.

The coffee stand is on the second floor, so you’ll need to take the stairs up. The staircase can be quite steep if you’re making your way down, so try not to use your phone but rather focus on making your way down carefully, as we’ve seen guests fall on their way down along with their freshly brewed 3D latte.
Thankfully, even though we arrived around 12 noon, there was no need for us to wait in line for too long. The entire process of getting our queue ticket, ordering our drink of choice, and selecting our 3D latte art was simple. The shop only accepts cashless mode of payment. The price range for regular 3D latte art is 1000 yen (approx. SGD$10) but if you’re looking at customising it further it will be around 1300 to 1500 yen (approx. SGD$13 to $15).
Pro tip: If you have a particular 3D design in mind, remember to research and save it on your phone and present it to the Barista when it’s your turn to order.
The most exciting part is when the barista begins to prepare the 3D art with a cup of milk foam. You will be called to the counter, and phone stands will be provided for you to record this moment!

Here’s what we ordered: a cafe latte and a matcha latte
The 3D latte art really holds up well! Here’s a photo after I have taken several sips:
Another great thing about Hat Coffee is that it isn’t just about the cute presentation of their drinks – the taste matters too! All of their drinks are made with high-quality ingredients that are carefully selected by the barista who makes them. That means each cup of coffee (or other beverage) tastes as good as it looks!
