Mention the word Rum – you’ll conjure an image of sailors and rowdy pirates in high spirit. Now, what does the world’s oldest spirit have to do with Singapore’s most storied bar at 15 Stamford?
A Rum-soaked History
The history goes back to the 18th century. Singapore was already a thriving shipping port that has received plenty of merchants and sailors from afar. The Bar at 15 Stamford is a historic site as it was formerly a lodging for the sailors, known as the Sailor’s Home.
But that’s not all, the former site also played host to the first appointed U.S Consul to Singapore in 1836. Joseph Balestier and his family lived in Singapore and cultivated a sugarcane plantation and operated a distillery. Look closely on the menu, you’ll find Plantation 1840, which is the house signature rum-based cocktail named after the Balestier family’s brief stint with rum-making in the late 1830s.
An Old World Bar Away from the Hustle and Bustle of the City
The 80-seater bar is full of old-world charm decorated with mahogany-clad and nineteenth-century furniture. Grab a seat at the wooden-topped bar and take your pick at the extensive menu of rum. This place is perfect for an after-work tipple as well as an intimate get-together with your best pals.

‘Hold My Purse’ Ladies Night
It’s a toast to ladies every Thursday with its ‘Hold My Purse!’ Ladies Night. Drinks shine the spotlight on rosé wines, spirits and aperitifs to celebrate the blushing, blossoming femininity to womanhood. Adding to the fun, rosé-based cocktails are named after famous fashion brands so whether you’re a Chanel, Prada or Gucci girl, you can now have it as your tipple of choice with your best girlfriends.
What’s more, if you happen to be carrying a matching bag to one of our cocktails, your drink is on the house!
Kubanski Party
Every Friday, a Kubanski Party takes over with a food menu of Cuban-inspired bites matching the top-shelf range of Cuban rum at the bar. If you’re a traditionalist, try El Presidente. Then savour oysters as they do in the Caribbean, served with Calamansi Mojito ice and salted lime – it’s a whole menu dedicated to flavours of Cuba.
