5 Best Cherry Blossom Spots In Taiwan For Your 2026 Spring Getaway

When it comes to cherry blossom season in Asia, Japan often takes the spotlight, but Taiwan has quietly become one of the region’s most rewarding places to chase sakura. With blooms appearing from January through April, Taiwan offers a longer viewing window and incredible variety: city parks that are easy to reach, peaceful lakeside settings, and high-altitude mountain landscapes that bloom later in the season.

In this guide, we share our favourite cherry blossom viewing spots across the island.

1. Yangmingshan National Park (Taipei)

Starting right from Taipei, Yangmingshan National Park is hands down the most popular cherry blossom spot among locals. Just an hour ride from Taipei, this sprawling park transforms into a pink paradise from late January to mid-March. Flower Clock is the star of the show, surrounded by a sea of Mountain cherry, Yaezakura, Showa, and Yoshino cherry blossoms. It’s the perfect spot for a chill picnic and some serious photo-taking. The national park also hosts the annual Yangmingshan Flower Festival (6 February – 15 March 2026), where the whole place comes alive with even more blooms, light installations, and festive activities.

Bloom Dates: Late January to mid-March 2026 (Peak: Last week of February – first week of March)
Getting There: Take a bus from Taipei Main Station, Jiantan MRT, or Shilin MRT
Cost: Free entry to the park
Pro-Tip: Don’t miss the “Hushan Light and Shadow Weekend” during the Yangmingshan Flower Festival (Feb 6 – Mar 15, 2026) for a magical evening experience.

2. Wuji Tianyuan Temple (New Taipei City)

For those willing to venture just a little further up from Taipei into New Taipei City, Wuji Tianyuan Temple is a sight to behold during the cherry blossom season. The majestic 200-foot-tall pagoda rises above a cloud of delicate pink and white blossoms. The temple is especially enchanting at night when it’s all lit up, casting a golden glow over the swaying blossoms and creating a dreamy atmosphere.

Bloom Dates: Late January to April 2026 (Peak: February – March)
Getting There: Take the MRT to Tamsui Station, then a bus to Wuji Tianyuan Temple Station.
Cost: Free
Pro-Tip: Visit at night for a completely different vibe and some seriously stunning photos.

3. Sun Moon Lake (Nantou)

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, Sun Moon Lake is the place to be. With over 5,000 cherry trees in bloom, this scenic lake offers a breathtaking backdrop for your sakura viewing adventure. The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a must-visit, with its “First Night Cherry Blossom Appreciation” event. There will also be pop-up market selling cherry blossom-inspired treats. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Ita Thao Lakeside Trail or take a boat ride on the lake for a different perspective.

Bloom Dates: Late January to March 2026 (Peak: February – early March)
Getting There: Take the Kuo-Kuang bus from Taipei Bus Station or the HSR to Taichung and then a shuttle bus.
Cost: Varies by attraction. Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village entrance is 980 TWD (Approx. SGD 40)
Pro-Tip: Don’t miss the Cherry Blossom Tea Party and other events at National Chi Nan University.

4. Wuling Farm (Taichung)

For the most spectacular cherry blossom experience in Taiwan, you have to visit Wuling Farm in Taichung. This place is a literal dreamscape, with mountains painted in soft pink hues. It’s so popular that private vehicles are restricted during the cherry blossom season, so you’ll need to take a shuttle bus. But trust us, it’s worth the effort. The sheer number of cherry blossoms here will blow your mind.
