Shanghai’s ‘Number One Soup in a Tea Pot’ Expert Debuts in Singapore – Find The Soup Expert at Suntec City

If there’s one thing I could enjoy at every meal, it’s a good double-boiled soup, especially one with wellness benefits.

Shanghai’s most famous soup specialist has opened its first overseas outpost in Singapore, bringing its signature double-boiled soups and modern Chinese dishes to our shores that works for everything from quick business lunches to cosy weekend gathering.

From Shanghai to Suntec City Singapore

The Soup Expert is now open at Suntec City. A veteran brand with 18 years of experience crafting comforting Cantonese double-boiled soups.

The Soup Expert has served over 7.5 millions ‘teapot’ prior to establishing its first overseas outlet in Singapore

What sets them apart is their unique presentation: each soup is served in a custom teapot with matching teacups. The thoughtful design prevents scalding and encourages you to slow down and properly savour each sip. The teapot also makes it easier to sample different soups, especially when dining in a group.

With these dainty cups, drinking soup feels akin to raising a toast

Nourishing Double-Boiled Soups from S$9.90

Their menu features eight double-boiled soups, each offering different wellness benefits from beauty and vitality to energy, detox, and nourishment for growing children.

Left to Right: Abalone Ginseng Soup, Wild Mushroom Bamboo Fungus Soup, Black Garlic Beef Bone Soup

Popular favourites like the Abalone Ginseng Soup (S$14.90) and Black Garlic Beef Bone Soup (S$12.90), provides stamina and nourishment, while lighter options like Wild Mushroom Bamboo Fungus Soup (S$12.90) and Chinese Dates Fig Root Chicken Soup (S$9.90) cater to those wanting something soothing and restorative. For ladies, the Daylily Trotters Soup (S$10.90) is a beauty-boosting soup with anti-inflammatory daylily and collagen-rich trotters for radiance and calm.

According to The Soup Expert, all soups are slow-simmered for four hours using traditional steam-boiling techniques. And when I took my first sip, I was impressed by the clarity of the broth and the depth of flavour. It’s honestly hard to pick just one favourite after tasting the full range. If you’re visiting for the first time, I’d highly recommend the Black Garlic Beef Bone Soup and the Wild Mushroom Bamboo Fungus Soup as they are not commonly available in our local food scene.

A Menu of Modern Chinese Plates

Beyond its signature double-boiled soups, The Soup Expert also serves a range of modern Chinese plates from refreshing cold dishes to heartier options like whole chicken, rice, and vermicelli.

Cooker-Baked Dang Gui Chicken

Their signature chicken dishes are perfect for sharing. The Cooker-Baked Dang Gui Chicken (whole S$36.90, half S$18.90) is marinated for over 10 hours with angelica root, red dates, and goji berries, resulting in tender, flavourful meat resting in a nourishing broth. While the Xian Miao Roast Chicken (whole S$36.90, half S$18.90), is roasted with over 10 spices until the skin turns crisp and aromatic.

Left to Right: Chilled Seafood Medley, Crispy Juicy Boneless Fish, Five Harmony Prawn Cake

If you’re exploring the menu for the first time, the Crispy Juicy Boneless Fish (S$11.90) is an easy crowd-pleaser, crispy and sweet. For something lighter, the Chilled Seafood Medley (regular S$10.90, large S$16.90) is a refreshing pick. Fresh seafood is tossed in a fragrant chilli oil, offering a flavour profile reminiscent of kou shui ji, the iconic Sichuan ‘mouthwatering chicken’. If you’re not in the mood for anything spicy, go for the Five Harmony Prawn Cake (S$18.90 for 3 slices), it’s house-made, tender, and packed with the natural sweetness of fresh prawns. For something indulgent, go for the Lobster Fried Rice (S$48.90), creatively known as the ‘Hermès of Fried Rice’ in Shanghai.
