Thailand’s New Travel Requirement: Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Visa-Exempt Travellers Starting December 2024

Thailand is set to introduce an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for visa-exempt travellers, enhancing screening and tracking of foreign visitors. Starting 1st December 2024, citizens from 93 countries can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa, with an option to extend by an additional 30 days.

Here’s What You Need to Know About Thailand’s ETA

  • A pilot phase is expected by December 2024, with full deployment by June 2025.
  • Travelers will apply for the ETA through the electronic visa portal at www.thaievisa.go.th
  • All visa-exempt travellers must hold an approved ETA before entering Thailand, applicable for each entry.
  • The ETA will be free of charge.
  • ETA holders can use automated gates at immigration with a QR code.
  • Holders of diplomatic and official passports, as well as UN Laissez-Passer users will not need an ETA.

The 93 eligible countries include nations like Singapore, United States, Australia, China and several EU countries. This system aims to streamline entry processes while enhancing security measures in Thailand.
