American Express opens first Centurion Lounge in Japan at Tokyo Haneda Airport

American Express has officially launched its first Centurion Lounge in Japan at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) on Tuesday (July 16). This opening comes in response to the increasing demand for premium travel services in one of Asia’s busiest aviation hubs.

This new Centurion Lounge at Haneda Airport is the 30th worldwide and the 4th in Asia, complementing existing lounges at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi, Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai. It expands the global network of over 1,550 lounges accessible to eligible American Express cardholders, including Singapore cardholders of The Platinum Card®.

The lounge features cuisine developed by Chef Satoshi Ogino, whose Tokyo restaurant Akasaka Ogino holds Michelin recognition. Menu offerings include both Japanese specialities such as sushi and ramen, alongside international options.

Unique features include private meditation booths equipped with curated audio programmes featuring Japanese nature sounds, addressing the growing wellness trend among premium travellers. A dedicated sweets bar showcases traditional Japanese Wagashi confections alongside premium beverages including sake and shochu.

The lounge incorporates “Japan Blue”, a deep indigo colour derived from traditional Aizome dyeing techniques throughout its design. Local artisans contributed commissioned works, including ceramics, ink paintings, and traditional Wajima Nuri lacquerware. The lacquerware pieces were specifically sourced from Ishikawa Prefecture to support recovery efforts following the 2024 earthquake that affected the Noto Peninsula region.

Additional design elements include elegant Uroko ceramic tiles at the bar area, an Edo-Kiriko-inspired custom chandelier in the main seating area, and natural materials such as slatted wood, stone, and walnut accents throughout the space.

A separate Centurion VIP Room provides additional amenities for holders of American Express’s ultra-premium Centurion Card, featuring elevated furnishings and Kumiko-style woodwork.

At nearly 7,500 square feet, the Centurion Lounge at HND operates near Gate 114 in Terminal 3, offering airfield views for departing passengers. Signature Centurion Lounge amenities include complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, premium shower suites, dedicated workstations, and business facilities.
