Phuket’s Laidback South Is Getting a New Beach Resort

If you’ve ever wished for a quieter side of Phuket, Rawai Beach delivers. While the rest of the island leaned into beach clubs and infinity pools, this southern enclave kept things distinctively local. Fishermen still sell their catch by the water, long-tail boats putter out to nearby islands, and the Sea Gypsy Village remains untouched. Thai hotel group Chatrium clearly gets the appeal and they are opening their first Phuket resort right on this stretch.

Opening sometime in 2026, Chatrium Rawai Phuket brings 304 rooms, suites and pool villas to the area—most with Andaman Sea views from your balcony.

Travelling with kids? There’s a dedicated kids’ club, splash pools and water slides to keep the little ones occupied. For everyone else, there’s a wellness spa, a water sports hub on the beach and a pool deck with sweeping views.

Food-wise, expect a seafood-forward restaurant inspired by old-school fisherman’s markets (we’re talking fresh local catches and fiery southern Thai flavours), plus a poolside bar for sundowners and a lobby lounge for when you just need a coffee.

The location also makes it easy to hop on a boat to coral reefs and diving spots, or take a quick drive to Promthep Cape and the picture-perfect Ya Nui Beach.

Chatrium Rawai Phuket is about 90 minutes from the airport and 30–40 minutes from Phuket Old Town.
