Discover The Pangolin Trail

The Pangolin Trail is set to be a landmark addition to Singapore’s renowned Night Safari and will be the first fully sheltered walking trail at Night Safari, allowing guests to explore the nocturnal world regardless of weather conditions. This new trail will allow guests to experience the sights and sounds of the jungle after dark, showcasing a diverse range of approximately a dozen animal species. Among the star attractions are the elusive Sunda pangolin, the charming slow loris, the playful binturong, the agile oriental small-clawed otter and the enchanting spotted giant flying squirrel.

A Tribute to Conservation

The Pangolin Trail at Night Safari is not just an addition to the park but a testament to the ongoing dedication to wildlife conservation and education. As one of the world’s most endangered species, the pangolin’s presence at Night Safari underscores the park’s dedication to conservation. Dr. Cheng Wen-Haur, Deputy CEO and Chief Life Sciences Officer of Mandai Wildlife Group expressed enthusiasm about the new trail stating that “The new trail tells the story of their ongoing mission to conserve this critically endangered species, with a holistic plan to protect them both in the wild, as well as in their care. The trail will offer guests the unique experience of seeing and learning about the shy and elusive pangolin being active at night.”

The Mandai Wildlife Group has pioneered efforts to care for and breed the Sunda pangolin, becoming the first zoo in the world to achieve successful breeding of this species. The veterinary team at Mandai has treated over 200 wild pangolins in the past decade and continues to play a significant role in international breeding programs.

A New Upgrade

In addition to the new trail, Night Safari is celebrating its milestone anniversary with exciting enhancements. Chawang, the park’s iconic Asian bull elephant, will have a newly designed habitat featuring innovative enrichment features. A ‘stable grazer’ that randomly dispenses hay will encourage Chawang to engage in more natural foraging behaviours, enhancing both his well-being and the visitor experience. A new lookout deck will provide an up-close view of Chawang, offering a unique perspective of this majestic animal.
