March 8 marks International Women’s Day (IWD), a century-old global event observed since 1900s, and it’s a day to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is #EachforEqual, in reference to shape a gender-equal world.
Throughout history, both men and women have the same thirst for knowledge, however, women have not always been given the same opportunities to explore the answers. Take the invention of computer technology and WiFi, for example, they were made possible because of two women with bold ideas. Let us not remember only Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, but also Grace Hopper, the creator of modern programming and Hedy Lamarr, the inventor and film actress. Let us remember that women can make a difference too.
And I want to take this opportunity to remind the ladies that it’s equally important to celebrate yourself and take care of your well-being while managing modern realities (demands). Making time for yourself is also a form of activism.
Relax in a New Age Sauna
After all the Lunar New Year’s celebration (and indulgences), it’s time to give your body system a reboot and get your fitness regime in order again. Easier said than done, right? But it’s possible and you don’t have to lift any weights to break a sweat! Check yourself into Pure Wellness Studio Infrared Sauna which offers a fuss-free detox session. Located within a beautiful shophouse at 70A Duxton Road, it is Singapore’s first dedicated studio for infrared therapy. Let the power of light transform you inside out. Infrared is safe, and it is used in the hospital to keep newborn babies warm. It has also been proven that infrared therapy can increase metabolism, provide deep detoxification, heal skin conditions, increase blood circulation and relieve muscle aches.
The studio features three types of infrared sauna for you to choose from – Rejuvenate, Recover and Relax. What to expect? The infrared sauna experience is gentler and more relaxing because the temperature is lower as compared to the regular sauna. Each session lasts for about 45 minutes and it’ll leave you feeling energised and glowing.
There is a special introductory price at $75 for 2 sweat sessions. Time to call up your besties and get going!

Take An Empowering Trip to NSW
Australia’s months-long bushfires have eased and now is the time to show what you love about New South Wales with the rest of the world. Join the #LoveNSW movement by sharing your travel moments or favourite places in NSW.
Do good and feel good with your besties when you book a trip to New South Wales. According to 2019 Australia Bureau of Statistics, more than a third of small business owners in Australia are women. Consider a trip this coming International Women’s Day to New South Wales to show your support to women-owned businesses ranging from local produce, skincare products to wineries.
Lovers of natural products would love to make a quick stop at Indigiearth, an award-winning range of modern Australia native products founded by Sharon Winsor, a Ngemba Weilwan woman from Western NSW. It offers over two hundred products including native foods, candles, diffusers and an all-natural skincare range. Another to add to the list is Juddarnje, a natural skincare range created by Linda, Christa and Megan Slockee who incorporate natural oils, clays, botanicals and essential oils made from Australian ingredients. We also recommend making time to visit wineries run by respectable women winemakers, such as Rowlee Wines in Orange helmed by Director Nicole Samodol, and Pepper Tree Wines in Hunter Valley helmed by Head Winemaker Gwyn Olsen.
