In just weeks, Japan’s culinary capital, Osaka, will transform into a global hub of innovation from 13 April to 13 October. Under the visionary theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives,’ this six-month spectacle promises a glimpse into tomorrow’s world, blending innovation with Osaka’s irresistible charm.
This marks Osaka’s second time hosting a World Expo, following the highly successful Expo 1970, which drew 64 million visitors and symbolised Japan’s post-war economic rise.
The Venue: Yumeshima Island

Set on Yumeshima, a man-made island in Osaka Bay, the World Expo 2025 site spans 155 hectares against a stunning backdrop of sea and sky. Central to its design is the Grand Ring, a striking facade that serves as the site’s main route. This architectural marvel provides visitors with a panoramic view of the expo and symbolises ‘Unity in Diversity’.
Designed by renowned architect Sou Fujimoto, this circular structure crafted largely from Japanese cedar, cypress, and Scots pine, marries state-of-the-art engineering with the ancient art of Nuki joints. This nail-free woodworking technique is used for centuries in the construction of Japan’s sacred shrines and temples.

This circular marvel has earned a Guinness World Record as “The Largest Wooden Architectural Structure,” with a roof area of 61,035.55 square meters. Spanning an inner diameter of 615 meters and an outer diameter of 675 meters, the Grand Ring stands 12 to 20 meters tall and 30 meters wide, sheltering visitors from rain, wind, and sun while offering a rooftop walkway with panoramic views of the Expo site and Osaka Bay.
