For iRecommend member Haryani Othman, Italy has always held a special allure. When she and her husband Khairul Famy took a trip to this beautiful country, they were determined to explore Italy beyond its famed landmarks. They wanted to fully immerse themselves in the destination’s rich culinary traditions and hidden gems, all while ensuring their meals met their religious requirements. As a result, the holiday also turned into an exciting adventure of hunting for Muslim-friendly and halal delicacies!
Thankfully, with the help of ChangiWiFi’s lightweight portable travel Wi-Fi, which comes with unlimited Wi-Fi and guaranteed connection, they were able to achieve their travel goals seamlessly.
ChangiWiFi: An Essential Travel Companion
Haryani was really glad she decided to get ChangiWiFi for data roaming overseas – it proved to be a really important travel companion! Besides stable and reliable travel data connectivity, she was impressed by the easy booking process, convenient collection and return of the device at the airport, and 24/7 customer support. Additionally, this portable Wi-Fi offers affordable rental rates with no hidden charges.
One of the most memorable aspects of their holiday in Italy was navigating the bustling streets of Naples to see the shrine of Maradona in the Spanish Quarter. As they didn’t have any guide to show them where it was, they relied on their own initiative, using online resources like Google Maps, Google Search, and travel blogs.
Throughout their journey, ChangiWiFi ensured uninterrupted travel network connectivity, providing real-time navigation assistance and allowing them to easily access online resources for self-guided tours. The seamless connection also enabled them to capture and share spontaneous moments of their trip. One of the standout features was consistent service in remote and unexpected locations, such as mountainous regions and coastal areas – for example the famous Pompeii.
“ChangiWiFi proves to be a very reliable router. I have tried others and they were always giving me issues. But with ChangiWiFi, it’s reliable and the battery lasts for more than a day!” Haryani says.
DISCOVERING ITALY’S TIMELESS LANDMARKS
During their two-week holiday, Haryani and Famy’s visits to iconic landmarks took them into centuries of history and cultural significance. Each attraction not only captured their imagination but also deepened their understanding of Italy’s rich heritage, leaving an indelible impression that would resonate long after their journey concluded.
Pompeii: A Historical Marvel
Preserved under layers of ash since its tragic fate in 79 A.D. during the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii stands frozen in time, offering visitors like Haryani and Famy a poignant glimpse into ancient Roman life.
The Colosseum, Rome
No trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Colosseum! Stepping into the Colosseum, Haryani and her husband were transported back in time, where the roar of the crowds and the epic battles once unfolded within its ancient walls.
Bernina Express Train Ride
Venturing beyond Italy, Haryani and Famy embarked on the Bernina Express, a scenic train journey through the Swiss Alps. In this two-hour ride, they traversed breathtaking landscapes and snow-capped peaks.
CULINARY DELIGHTS ACROSS ITALY
Apart from eclectic attractions, Haryani and Famy also embarked on a culinary escapade that led them to discover Italy’s rich tapestry of flavours and traditions. From renowned historic pizzerias to unassuming yet delightful halal establishments, each dining experience enhanced their trip significantly.
“Waiters in every restaurant we dined in were super sweet as they would inform us which one to avoid from their menu! We were surprised with the fact that some non-halal establishments had menu indications on vegan, pork, and alcohol,” the couple shares.
L’antica Pizzeria Da Michele, Naples
In Naples, they savoured the iconic Margherita pizza at L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, founded in 1870. A bestseller, the pizza’s simplicity of fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil tantalised their taste buds and offered a true taste of Neapolitan tradition.
“My personal favourite would definitely be the Margherita! Did you know that this restaurant was featured in the movie “Eat, Pray, Love”?” Haryani remarks.
Emma Pizzeria, Rome
Nestled in Rome’s historic centre, Emma Pizzeria offers a taste of authentic Roman cuisine. Their Napoli pizza, with its thin crust and flavourful toppings, left a lasting impression on Haryani. She also enjoyed the delicate Fettuccine with tomato, a perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication.
Peri Peri Halal Grill, Rome
The Peri Peri Halal Grill was a key item on the menu and it delighted the couple with its grilled chicken steak served alongside crisp vegetables and aromatic rice.
Ristorante Sabatini, Rome
Located near River Tiber, Ristorante Sabatini specialises in fresh seafood sourced daily from passing ships. Hani and Famy highly recommend the crispy fried seabass and savoury fried artichokes.
Bab Al Yemen Ristorante, Milan
In Milan, the Bab Al Yemen Ristorante is famed for its Yemeni cuisine – most notably, the flavourful Beef Briyani. The aromatic spices and tender meat provided a delectable contrast to Italian food, showcasing Milan’s vibrant multicultural dining scene.
Haryani and Famy’s Italian getaway was a journey marked by unforgettable discoveries and delectable delicacies. Through it all, ChangiWiFi became a must-have device, enhancing their exploration of Italy’s treasures with uninterrupted travel data connectivity.
