Not everyone can afford the time and money to fly halfway across the globe to run along flower fields and admire historic European architecture. But we can all dream, right? We scoured the internet and find these “replica” European destinations that you can visit to satisfy your European wanderlust without the need for deep pockets. Located nearby in Asia, these attractions are slightly less expensive and easier to visit.
You know what they say: Imitation is the best form of flattery.
1. Chocolate Ville in Bangkok, Thailand
Far from what its name suggests; there is no chocolate factory in Chocolate Ville. (The origin of its name remains a mystery until today.) It is actually a theme park restaurant in a European town-inspired village. The dome-shaped pavilions and European-style buildings are especially beautiful at night.
2. Hallstatt in Huizhou, China
Inspired by Hallstatt, a rustic Austrian village that has received UNESCO recognition. The Chinese village replica (Wukuang Hashitate), which includes old-fashioned buildings and farmhouses, has gained popularity as a wedding photography location in Asia.
3. The Venetian Macao in Macau, China
Sister to The Venetian in Las Vegas, this luxury resort is the largest casino in the world! It’s also the largest single-building hotel in Asia. In this Chinese replica of the Italian floating city, there’s even a mini grand canal and gondolas!
4. Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki, Japan
Named after one of the residences of the Dutch Royal Family, this Dutch-inspired theme park has got it down to a tee: They’ve got red brick buildings, iconic windmills, canals, and more. There’s even a replica of the Palace Huis Ten Bosch. The area is divided into two zones: A theme park and a hotel.
5. Santorini Park in Cha-Am, Thailand
Its iconic white-washed buildings and pebbled walkways bring a piece of the famous Greek destination to Thailand. Santorini Park is located on a highway (before Cha-Am Beach), and offers a breathtaking cliff-top view of the surrounding scenery. An amusement park with classic rides and a wide variety of restaurants, this attraction is a must-visit in Cha-Am!
6. French Village in Bukit Tinggi, Malaysia
Tired of Cameron and Genting Highlands? Say hello to Malaysia’s up-and-coming highlands, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. Situated about 48km away from Kuala Lumpur, this city is all about culture. It is also most famous for Colmar Tropicale, a French-inspired village with cobblestone buildings, hip cafes and restaurants, and even buskers.
7. Little London, Thames Town in Shanghai, China
Snap your #OOTDs by the Tudor-style buildings and iconic red telephone booths, and nobody will be able to tell that you’re in Shanghai, not London! This cosy London-inspired corner is a residential area for the elite Chinese and even has a Thames river replica.
8. Petite France in Gyeonggi, South Korea
A popular K-drama filming site (most notably from My Love from the Star and Winter Sonata), Petite France is inspired by the French countryside on the Mediterranean coast and is filled with beautiful forests and greenery. It’s also a top choice for wedding photography!
