ICELAND, Reykjavik – Seemingly a pillar that holds up the sky, Hallgrimskirkja is a Lutheran church that stands tall and majestic, a prominent edifice visible throughout the city. Its structure ascends upwards and was designed to resemble the basalt lava flows which is signature of Iceland’s natural landscape.

Hallgrimskirkja hosts services every Sunday and its top notch interior acoustics and gargantuan pipe organ turns it into one of the best places in the city for classical music concerts. The Lutheran church is the pride and joy of the city, and includes even a statue of Icelandic Viking Leif Eiriksson in front of the church, who is said to be the first European to set foot on the North American Continent around 1000 AD.

Standing tall and proud, the entire structure truly is a marvel.
