INDONESIA, Wologai Village – These traditional Lionese architectural-style houses are signature to the Wologai Village of the Ende district of Flores, Indonesia. Rooted in deep culture and heritage, life in Wologai still follows the old ways, in defiance of the modern transformation that has pervaded the rest of the world.

In the main ceremonial house, sacred objects and ritual paraphernalia are kept, with a drum that harkens to a dark past of Wologai most have forgotten with the passing of time. The troubling myth tells of a time when the villagers of Wologai used human skin to make the drum, a practice thankfully no longer practiced today.

With a 800 year history, here’s to Wologai Village retaining its heritage in the face of enroaching modernisation.
