CANADA, Banff National Park – Also known as The Lake of the Little Fishes, Lake Louise is a popular travel destination in Banff. The reason for the attraction is easy to see – the calm, turquoise water make for a brilliantly coloured mirror lake that lulls you into a leisurely kayaking session, perfect for contemplating the wonders of nature.
The lake owes its peculiar colouring to rock flour carried into the lake from the surrounding glaciers. The suspension of fine, silt-like rock in the water creates alluring layers and shifting densities, which gradually give way to crystal clear water at the lake’s edge. As far as natural sights go, few are as mesmerising as Lake Louise under a clear blue sky.
