FRANCE, Valensole – It’s summertime in France and the fields are blooming with Lavender in the southeastern French region of Provence. For the people of Provence, the blooming of Lavender in Summer signals a annual time-honoured tradition that is celebrated throughout the region.
You can feel the excitement palpitating in the air as the town of Valensole gets ready to host the biggest Lavender Festival that happens on the third Sunday of July every year (21st July in 2019). If you’re not walking through Lavender fields or distilleries, you’ll find yourself traversing fresh food markets in quaint medieval villages.
Standing in the fields of Plateau de Valensole, it’s easy to see why the Provence Lavenders are world-renowned. There are rows upon rows of bountiful Lavender flowers stretching as far as the eye can see, and if you time your trip right, the setting sun provides a beautiful backdrop for an amazing photo op.
