Japan is finally easing travel restrictions to welcome more travellers!
From September 7, Japan will raise the daily arrival cap to 50,000 tourists and allow vaccinated travellers who have received three shots of an approved COVID-19 vaccine to enter Japan on non-guided package tours. This also means that vaccinated travellers will not be required to undergo pre-arrival PCR tests. This is an attempt to attract international visitors and revitalise the battered tourism industry.
Despite the fact that group tours have been permitted since June, the Japan National Tourism Organization estimates that only 144,500 foreign tourists visited the country in July (JNTO).
The government has not yet come up with details of what constitutes a package tour, but guidelines will be released in the coming days, a government official said.
